Proxy Settings for LG VX4500/VX8100
This article describes the procedure for configuring the LG VX4500/VX8100 to
use a proxy server of your choosing.
The instructions that follow refer to the "Menu" key on the
phone. As many folks don't seem to know which key this is, it is the
middle button when at the home screen.
Steps:
First you need to get into the WAP Settings menu.
- Press the Menu key
- Press 0
- You should be prompted for your 6-digit security code. It is 000000
unless you've changed it.
- You should now be in the "Programming Menu" and "WAP
Settings" should be one of your choices. Choose this option.
You should now be in your WAP Settings menu. Before completing
each step that follows, write down the original settings in case you ever
want to go back to them.
-
Proxy Address Settings: Select Primary address and remove
whatever it says in here, and you will now put in the IP Address
of the proxy server. If you are running your own proxy server, be
sure that the IP address you are using is the "real" IP
address and not some local, non-routable, NAT address. Explaining
briefly, if your proxy machine is behind a broadband router then
it almost certainly has been assigned a non-routable IP address.
To find out the real IP, from the proxy machine itself, go to www.ipchicken.com
and it will tell you your IP.
-
Proxy Port Settings: Select Primary Port, and change the
port number to 9201. Also change Primary LXL Port to 9201.
-
User Password: Enter your password for the proxy server.
This almost certainly is case sensitive.
-
Homepage: This should already say http://homepage, if you're
using HoTTProxy, you can leave this alone and set the homepage in
the settings of HoTTProxy. Otherwise change this to whatever homepage
you would like.
-
Username: LG's do not have any place to enter a username, instead
the username the phone will use when accessing a proxy is your MIN, a.k.a.
your mobile phone's phone number (e.g. 8885551212 with no punctuation). If
your proxy server requires you to create a user account and password, that
number is what you'll use for the UserID of the account.
If your proxy server is up and running, and you've done everything
right, when you launch Mobile Web you should go to your home page.
If you get any sort of error you either entered something wrong or
your proxy isn't up or your homepage isn't reachable.
