Welcome to version 2 of the WebSession Editor. This version improves over the original in that it represents a fuller knowledge of a few of the bytes in the file. The old 2-byte "Status" field has been broken out into one-byte fields "Access Type" and "User Type" with appropriate options. The field previously referred to as "Unknown Item" is now properly named "Proxy Authentication" with legal options and descriptions now correctly presented (Alltel users wanting to use HoTTProxy need this item).
Read this paragraph!!! This is an experimental tool designed to help you edit your WebSession file without the dangers of doing it incorrectly with a hex editor. This tool does not employ any intelligence and leaves all decisions up to you. It will let you do dumb things like leave the User Type set to "Invalid/Unused" even though you have filled in other details in that record. Therefore you should read each entry carefully, and make sure you set everything correctly. You should always keep a copy of a "known good" WebSession file in case you put one on your phone that makes it unhappy. In things go awry, in theory you should be able to overwrite the bad WebSession file with the known-good one and be no worse for wear.
Read this too!!! This tool is provided as-is and without any guarantee whatsoever. If you blow up your phone, that's too bad - you shouldn't have been playing with it if you weren't willing to take that risk. That said, I have tested this tool with my own Verizon phone and had no problems. The default Verizon file is from my Verizon V710, and other templates have been provided by various helpful Internet folks.
You should know, I do not knowingly keep copies of your uploaded WebSession files. The CGI.pm library that receives the upload undoubtedly creates temp files, but presumably it cleans them up too. You should be aware that if you are uploading a WebSession file that you've already customized to work with your proxy, the IP address of your proxy, your UserID, and your password are all in that file. While I will not endeavor to intentionally retain or analyze that data, there is always some risk of compromise of your data, in transit, in temporary files, or otherwise.
If you're running HoTTProxy, don't get all creative here and set your homepage to something special in your WebSession file - remember, changing the WebSession file is a pain, reconfiguring your homepage in HoTTProxy is easy. Stick with "http://homepage" as your homepage if you want HoTTProxy to handle your homepage for you.
